During this camp participants will explore the Front Range through a variety of outdoor recreation experiences including Canoeing & Kayaking, Archery, Outdoor Rock Climbing, and White-Water Paddling. At the National Sports Center for the Disabled we rethink ability through personal challenge in the enriching atmosphere of the outdoors. Through these experiences’ participants can learn important lessons about themselves and other as, find new healthy hobbies/activities, increase their overall fitness/quality of life, and meeting some new friends and have fun. Campers are introduced to new skills and activities by highly trained staff. Participants who are not independent in self-care must supply a personal care provider who is available to them throughout the length of the camp.

ESSENTIAL ELEGIBILTY

o   Has a lifelong disability or diagnosis. 

o   The participant can have an acute injury that impedes their performance or participation in able bodied sports or activities. This includes people recovering from injuries and surgery and needing assistance adapting to physical activity. 

o   Will have a caregiver who can provide supervision during non-lesson times OR is over 18 and does not need supervision. 

o   Can independently or with minimal assistance toilet, not need to toilet during the lesson, or there is a caregiver available to give assistance. 

o   Can independently take medications or there is a designated caregiver to administer medications that are scheduled to be taken during the lesson. 

o   If medication needs to be administered in the event of a seizure and/or any other medical condition that require IMMEDIATE administration of medication a trained caregiver must accompany the individual on the lesson. 

o   Must be able to breathe independently or If a breathing device is necessary during lesson, participant or care giver must be able to operate and maintain the device. 

o   Is able to wear properly fitting, industry standard safety equipment, i.e. harness.

o   Participants that require the use of an ASL (American Sign Language) interpreter need to give us 2 weeks’ notice. 

o   Be able to refrain from behaviors that pose a risk to his/herself or others.  These behaviors include aggression and an inability to set or respect personal boundaries.

12 Spots Maximum with a Minimum attendance of 4 participants. Max capacity of 4 individuals who use wheelchairs.
